Senior Software Engineering Manager (Front-End)

Permanent - Leeds, London and Uppingham

In this Senior Manager level role, you’ll assume management responsibility for the people and practices within the MMT Front-end Engineering community. You’ll enable quality delivery, team growth and motivation.

You will be responsible for our growing and supporting our team of over 30 front-end engineers as they work with our clients building best in class solutions. MMT Digital is growing, and you will need to support the Head of Engineering in building out the team and defining the structure for success.

How you'll spend your time

  • Coaching and mentoring a team of 30+ engineers and future managers to achieve their career goals.
  • Working with our client, technical and product leads to support our engineers building best in class front-end solutions
  • Contributing to management initiatives helping us become an employer of choice for our engineers.
  • Coordinate teamwork across the Front-end Engineering team, to give team members forums for knowledge sharing and to create a sense of community
  • Being a key player in the process for recruitment of front-end roles within MMT, with a focus on quality, consistency and efficiency
  • Working with the other managers to create an overarching community of excellence and enthusiasm, working towards shared company goals.

You'll be responsible for

  • Senior line-management for the Front-End Engineering team, including oversight of onboarding, performance management, training and career progression
  • Defining the future structure and strategy of the front-end community through an era of accelerated growth
  • Communicating proactively to the wider development community in MMT Digital, including lightning talks, wiki articles and brown bags/lunch and learns
  • Adapting and iterating best practices for Front-end Engineers, with a focus on consistency, innovation and scalability
  • Crafting a vision for the front-end community to foster a culture of belonging and empowerment
  • The strategy for building out and structuring the front-end engineering capability at MMT.
  • Developing and nurturing internal engineering talent

What You'll Bring

In order to flourish in this role, you’ll need the following:

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong understanding of applied Agile principles
  • An accomplished people leader with experience leading other leaders.
  • A flair for process review and adaptation
  • Strong commercial instincts
  • Technical competencies expected from a Senior Engineer, or comparable level

It would also be great (but not essential) if you have:

  • Experience of designing and working within a roadmap of goals aligned to an agreed vision
  • A knowledge of current industry front-end technologies.

Our offices in London, Leeds and Uppingham have reopened fully, but should you prefer to work from home or combine remote and office work, you are welcome to! We just ask that you’re flexible to travel to the office or client sites as required. You will be able to confirm your preferences in the application form.
