Senior Site Reliability Engineer (Azure)

Permanent - Remote (UK), Leeds, London and Uppingham

Once we feel it’s safe, we’ll be reopening our offices in Leeds, London and Uppingham. Our team will have the choice to continue to work remotely (within the UK), from one of our offices, or a combination of the above.  
We just ask that you’re flexible to travel to the office or client sites as required. You’ll be able to confirm your preference on the application form. 

What you'll do

At MMT Digital, our Site Reliability Engineers create a bridge between development and operations by applying a software engineering mindset to system administration situations. This role allows us to apply these practices to clients and provide services such as managed SRE.

As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer you’ll be responsible for defining and governing NFRs (non-functional requirements) such as availability, performance, security and maintainability. You’ll also share some architecture responsibility.

When you join our Systems team, you’ll be:

  • Directly responsible for uptime of client infrastructure and applications
  • Owning end-to-end availability and performance of key services and build automation to prevent problem recurrence
  • Defining key NFRs like Availability, performance, security, through a standard governance framework which can be used both internally and across all our clients
  • Automating current manual infrastructure management and alerts handling processes
  • Assisting in the roll-out and deployment of new product features and installations
  • Finding scalability bottlenecks and areas for performance improvements
  • Actively seek out opportunities for improvement and enhancement of client solutions, and drive the commercial conversations to enable this delivery
  • Working closely with technical leads to ensure that platforms are designed with scale and operability in mind
  • Working closely with clients to ensure optimal availability standards are defined and met
  • Assisting in the discussion and formulation of architectural strategies to maximise performance, stability and efficiency of the solution
  • Triage and solve service issues and outages
  • Contributing to the design of system architecture through evidence-based recommendations
  • Creating and maintaining sufficient levels of documentation for the solutions produced

You’ll also work with the Systems Team Delivery Manager and wider Systems Engineering Team to continually assess and improve ways of working to enable delivery of client work. You’ll support the Site Reliability Engineers in your team to grow and develop their careers through mentorship, and assist MMT Digital to become a global thought leader in this discipline.

What you'll bring

In order to flourish in this role, you’ll need the following:

  • Experience with running production systems, triaging and solving outages (Incident Management using PagerDuty)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the confidence to voice issues appropriately and professionally
  • Experience with modern monitoring systems such as Datadog, Application Insights, New Relic
  • Hands-on Software engineering experience with one or more programming languages (e.g. Python, Go, Bash, PowerShell, JavaScript, Java, C#)
  • Highly confident in System Architecture
  • Experience of using Config Management tools
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills, able to drive out root causes of complex technical problems
  • Experience with Azure

It would also be great (but not essential) if you have:

  • Experience of mentoring and coaching others
