Front-End Engineering Manager

Permanent - Leeds, London and Uppingham

In this Manager-level role you’ll assume management responsibility for the people and practices within the MMT Front-end Engineering community. You’ll enable quality delivery, team growth and motivation.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Adapting and iterating best practices for Front-end Engineers, with a focus on consistency, innovation and scalability
  • Senior line-management for the Front-End Engineering team, including oversight of onboarding, performance management, training and career progression
  • Leading the Front-end Guild: driving the definition of a roadmap for the guild and its guardians to achieve, and taking action to ensure the roadmap and implementation impact are visible to the rest of the business
  • Owning the process for recruitment of front-end roles within MMT, with a focus on consistency and efficiency
  • Coordinating communication efforts across the Front-end Engineering team, to give team members a forum for knowledge sharing and to build out a sense of community
  • Working with the other Engineering Managers to create an overarching community of excellence and enthusiasm, working towards shared company goals
  • Communicating proactively to the wider development community in MMT Digital, including lightning talks, wiki articles and brown bags/lunch and learns

What you'll bring

In order to flourish in this role, you’ll need the following:

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong understanding of applied Agile principles
  • Experience in, and a passion for, line management
  • A flair for process review and adaptation
  • Strong commercial instincts
  • Technical competencies expected from a Senior Engineer, or comparable level

It would also be great (but not essential) if you have:

  •  Experience of designing and working within a roadmap of goals aligned to an agreed vision

Our offices in London, Leeds and Uppingham have reopened fully, but should you prefer to work from home or combine remote and office work, you are welcome to! We just ask that you’re flexible to travel to the office or client sites as required. You will be able to confirm your preferences in the application form.
